It seems Chevrolet is making sure that its Cruze compact car will cater to people with varying tastes as it has just revealed a station-wagon variant of the model. This complements Chevrolet's original offering, the sedan, and the hatchback that debuted at the 81st Geneva International Motor Show.
Measuring 4,675mm in length, the Cruze station wagon is slightly longer than the hatchback (4,510 mm) and sedan (4,597 mm) models. Its cargo-carrying capacity ranges from 500 liters with the rear seats up to nearly 1,500 liters with the rear seats folded and the cargo loaded up to the ceiling.
According to Chevrolet, the station wagon's front fascia is unmistakably that of the Cruze's despite the carmaker's claim that it sports a number of exterior and interior styling differences. These include a remodeled front fascia, modified head-lamp interiors and fog lamps, and new wheel styles for the exterior. The interior has also been reportedly updated with refinements to the center console and a wide array of seat finishes to choose from.
Despite its more utilitarian function, the Cruze station wagon maintains the nameplate's poised and sporty look, thanks to the tapering single arch roofline.
Powerplant choices for the Cruze station wagon will be available on the entire Cruze line-up. In addition to the current 1.6- and 1.8-liter gasoline engines, a new 1.4-liter turbo gasoline, a new 1.7-liter diesel and an improved 2.0-liter diesel will complete the model's powertrain lineup in late-2012. Chevrolet added that the 1.4-liter gasoline, 1.7-liter diesel and 2.0-liter diesel engines come with start-stop technology as standard, and that all five engines are Euro 5-compliant.
