BMW reveals M6 coupe, convertible
BMW has revealed the all-new M6 in both coupe and convertible variants that, according to the German carmaker, will "both occupy a unique position in the premium segment of the executive class thanks to their blend of outstanding dynamics, hallmark M conceptual harmony and everyday usability."
Both vehicles boast a visually imposing body design with dynamically elegant lines to go with the hallmark M athleticism to convey high-performance properties--properties like the strikingly-contoured carbon-fiber-reinforced plastic roof for the M6 Coupe and the high-quality soft-top with the distinctive 'fin' architecture on the M6 Convertible.
Other special M design features on both cars' exterior are the three-section, modeled lower air intake with aerodynamically-optimized flaps; new M kidney grille with black double slats; flared wheel arches; hallmark BMW M gills with integrated direction indicator bars; aerodynamically-optimized exterior mirrors, side skirts and rear apron; a diffuser between the pair of twin exhaust tailpipes; and the standard 19-inch or optional 20-inch forged M light-alloy wheels with each one bearing a distinctive interpretation of the familiar M double-spoke design.
The sporty yet luxurious M treatment continues in the interior of the two vehicles like the new M double-spoke leather steering wheel; the M gear selector and car set-up controls on the model-specific center console; and the exclusive M sports seats with integrated belt system. Completing the package are the Merino leather upholstery with extended features; exclusive carbon-fiber interior trim strips; illuminated door sill finishers with model lettering; M-specific instrument cluster with black-panel technology; dual-zone automatic climate control with extended features; and ambient lighting.
A high-revving 4.4-liter V8 engine with M TwinPower Turbo technology powers both the M6 Coupe and M6 Convertible via a seven-speed M double-clutch transmission. With a power output of 553hp and 680Nm, the engine can propel the M6 Coupe from zero to 100kph in 4.2 seconds with 200kph reached in 12.6 seconds. For the M6 Convertible, both targets are reached at 4.3 seconds and 13.1 seconds, respectively. For both vehicles, top speed is electronically limited to 250kph though with the M Driver's Package, this is raised to 305kph.
Thanks to the carmaker's auto start-stop function and Efficient Dynamics technology, the M6 Coupe and M6 Convertible's average fuel consumption are 10.101km and 9.709km per liter, respectively, improving the cars' fuel consumption over its predecessors by more than 30 percent.
