While Honda is busy preparing for the sale of its ninth-generation Accord, the car company revealed the future of its design direction in the Accord Coupe concept car at the Detroit Motor Show.
The Accord Coupe Concept introduces Honda's foray in to what it calls an "athletic styling direction" with its dynamic front bumper lines, four-sided honeycomb grille and lower fog-light spoilers.
The concept coupe also carries 20-inch machine-finished five-spoke wheels and large exhaust finishers to add to the car's muscular look.
Ninth-generation Accord
The 2013 Honda Accord is scheduled to be released in the US market before the end of the year. When it comes out, it will be offered in three all-new powertrain options: a 2.4-liter 16-valve four-cylinder engine, a 3.5-liter 24-valve V-6 engine, and a two-motor plug-in hybrid system exclusively for the sedan.
"The Honda two-motor hybrid system moves continuously through three modes--all-electric, gasoline-electric and direct-drive--to maximize driving efficiency and fuel economy," Honda said.
Honda added that the 2012 Accord models will also feature the Honda ECO Assist system "that can enhance vehicle operation at the touch of a button, while also providing visual feedback to the driver to promote and confirm a more efficient driving style."
Safety-wise, the new Accord will be equipped with Honda's first use of the lane-departure warning and the forward-crash warning technologies. It is also the first model in the brand to carry a blind-spot display with a camera system installed on the passenger mirror, and the rearview backup camera.
